The National New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Center (NEVC) has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. (CATL) in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town) with the aim of deepening cooperation in the field of new energy.

As the first national-level technology innovation center in the automotive industry, and the leading global battery manufacturer, the cooperation between the NEVC and CATL will focus on areas such as power batteries and energy storage batteries, definition of new vehicle-grade chip products, selection and verification of domestically produced automotive chips, aiming for comprehensive alignment and in-depth practical cooperation.

Of particular note is that NEVC and CATL have jointly unveiled the "NEVC-CATL Vehicle-Grade Chip Evaluation and Verification Cooperation Laboratory". CATL will grant accreditation to the NEVC as a recognized laboratory and support its entry into CATL's chip testing supplier system.

According to XU Chaoqian, secretary of the CPC NEVC Committee and chairman of NEVC, this collaboration will not only help enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of both sides in the fields of advanced energy storage and automotive chipsets, but also promote the overall improvement of domestic power battery and energy storage battery technologies, as well as automotive chip testing and certification technologies.

Beijing E-Town currently has three major national-level automotive R&D platforms, which can provide comprehensive industry-specific technical services to related enterprises. It also hosts five major vehicle brands – Mercedes-Benz, Xiaomi, ARCFOX, STELATO and Jiyue – and has gathered a group of core component companies, forming a complete industrial chain and innovative ecosystem.
