Enterprises in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town) submitted 1,174 PCT applications from January to October 2024, ranking first among national-level economic and technological development zones.

In 2024, China celebrated the 30th anniversary of joining the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). Over the past 30 years, China has emerged as a crucial player in the global innovation landscape. The number of PCT international patent applications has increased from 98 in 1994 to nearly 70,000 in 2023, with China ranking first in the world for five consecutive years.

As the only national-level economic and technological development zone in the Chinese capital, Beijing E-Town has also achieved remarkable success on the stage of PCT international patent applications.

As a pioneer in the high-quality development of the capital and a key base for high-tech industries, Beijing E-Town has gathered over 100,000 operating entities. It has a strong momentum in innovation output, with continuous growth in the number of patent authorizations and invention patents.

From January to October 2024, Beijing E-Town had obtained 11,725 patent authorizations, a 21.26 percent increase from the same period of the previous year; it also had 1,174 PCT applications, ranking first among national-level economic and technological development zones. By October 2024, the development area had 26,166 effective invention patents, a 41.2 percent increase from the same period of the previous year.

As a window of Beijing's reform and opening-up, Beijing E-Town aims for high-level opening up to the outside world. Through diverse policy support, it has been encouraging enterprises to expand their business to international markets and building a favorable innovative ecosystem to help companies optimize and solidify their overseas intellectual property layout.

"Beijing E-Town always supports enterprises in establishing a global patent layout, providing strong support for them to expand their overseas operations," said an official from Beijing E-Town.

Beijing E-Town intends to further promote the transformation and application of patents from various aspects such as strengthening guarantees, providing platforms, pooling resources, and creating a vibrant ecosystem, in a bid to stimulate innovation vitality and transformation momentum and propel a development wave of new high-quality productive forces.
