The AIJOINT® artificial intelligence (AI) joint replacement surgery simulation software, independently developed by Longwood Valley Medtech in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town), recently obtained the EU CE certification.

This makes it the world's first AI orthopedic product to be recognized in the three major markets of China, the United States and Europe. This milestone signifies that China's orthopedic AI and surgical robotics industry have now reached international leading level.

In traditional orthopedic joint replacement surgery, doctors could only manually measure and repeatedly compare X-ray films in two dimensions to work out a surgical plan before performing surgery. This method provided limited information and had low accuracy.

AIJOINT® can use preoperative CT data of patients to intelligently segment the bones through its independently developed deep learning algorithm, rapidly achieve three-dimensional reconstruction, intelligently identify anatomical landmarks, automatically calculate based on the anatomical morphology of the bones and corresponding anatomical parameters, intelligently match the required prosthetic model and realize efficient preoperative surgical planning.

This fundamentally solves the current issues of low efficiency, slow speed and inaccuracy in preoperative planning, improves surgical outcomes, replicates the surgical experience of excellent doctors, shortens the learning curve for doctors and promotes the application of high-quality medical resources.

The product was first approved for listing in China in October 2023, making it the first innovative medical device in China in the "AI + orthopedic treatment" category. Subsequently, Longwood Valley Medtech expanded into overseas markets and obtained United States Food and Drug Administration certification of the product in August 2024. The recent EU certification marks another significant milestone for the company in its overseas expansion efforts.
