The 8th China Online Literature+ Conference opened in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town) on July 17.
At the main forum, China Audio-video and Digital Publishing Association released the 2024 Annual Report on the Development of Chinese Internet Literature.
According to the report, in 2024, the revenue of China's internet literature market reached 49.55 billion yuan ($6.9 billion), an increase of 29.37 percent year-on-year; the cumulative number of internet literary works reached 42.1 million, an increase of over 4.2 million compared to 2023, with a growth rate of 11.19 percent; and the user base of internet literature reached 638 million people in 2024, a 16 percent year-on-year increase, reaching a historical high.
It is worth noting that in 2024, the growth rate of the user base was significantly higher than that of works (11.19 percent) and authors (3.44 percent), indicating that internet literature is entering a new stage focused on user and consumption transformation.
During the keynote speech session, leaders from industry regulatory departments, representatives of well-known writers, and top executives of leading companies delivered speeches respectively, jointly exploring the unique path of internet literature development and providing insightful thoughts for the industry's growth.
In addition, the promotional gallery opened simultaneously with the main forum attracting many attendees to explore and appreciate.
Through physical products, interactive demonstrations, immersive experiences, and other forms, the gallery focused on promoting the latest achievements of new formats in "internet literature +" such as internet literature character figurines, AI reading, data intelligence-enabled reading, AI audiobooks, and VR glasses. It also showcased AIGC-assisted creative tools and classic IP transformation cases, vividly demonstrating the vibrant integration of internet literature with technology and industry.
The conference lasts for 2 days, during which there will be four sub-forums on creative criticism, technology empowerment, copyright protection, and young creators, as well as various activities including sharing salons, IP nights, creative inspirations, and more.
