Pony.ai, a Beijing E-Town-based company has announced its collaboration with Qatar's national transportation company, Mowasalat, to jointly promote the deployment of autonomous driving technology and vehicles in Qatar. The two sides have already begun conducting Robotaxi road tests in Qatar's capital, Doha.
This is not only a technological collaboration between companies but also a systematic practice of localized innovation.
The extreme climate in Qatar undoubtedly poses challenges for the large-scale deployment of Robotaxis—summer temperatures often exceed 45°C, with frequent sandstorms, high humidity, and intense sunlight. These conditions place higher demands on the performance of autonomous driving sensors, navigation accuracy, and vehicle cooling systems, making the region an ideal testing ground for vehicle-grade L4 autonomous driving capabilities.
Pony.ai is actively working on localizing its autonomous driving technology to adapt to Qatar's complex environment and operating conditions. The aim is to enable L4 autonomous vehicles to quickly respond to the local climate, road infrastructure, and traffic scenarios.
Currently, Pony.ai has not only established a global R&D center in Beijing E-Town but is also actively expanding its global presence in international markets across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. From Beijing E-Town to Doha, Pony.ai's Robotaxis are extending their reach, carrying the "E-Town experience" worldwide, showcasing technological confidence and commercial vitality on the international stage.
